About Arima

Arima, officially The Royal Chartered Borough of Arima, holds a storied place in the history and heart of Trinidad and Tobago. Nestled in the foothills of the Northern Range, it is a vibrant borough with deep Amerindian roots, reflected in the Santa Rosa First Peoples Community’s efforts to preserve the Carib culture through the annual Santa Rosa Festival.

The Borough has seen substantial development, including the establishment of the Arima General Hospital, enhancing healthcare accessibility. This progress is part of the vision promoted by the People’s National Movement (PNM), who has played a pivotal role in Arima’s growth, advocating for projects like the proposed Arima Administrative Complex, aimed at centralising public services to better serve the community.

Arima’s educational framework is robust, with schools that nurture future generations. The Arima Velodrome and other recreational facilities foster a spirit of active living and community engagement. Celebrations of religious and cultural diversity are commonplace, highlighting the Borough’s inclusive ethos.

The Connect Arima initiative, supported by former Mayor Cagney Casimire and now under the guidance of His Worship Alderman Maharaj, aligns with Beckles’ drive towards modernization while maintaining the borough’s unique heritage. Beckles’ contributions ensure that Arima not only honours its history but also moves confidently towards a future of innovation and prosperity.
